The Harry Gwala District Municipality (HGDM), situated in the south-western region of KwaZulu-Natal, has opened exciting doors for young graduates through its Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) Graduate Internship Programme. As part of its commitment to empowering youth and addressing unemployment in the region, this initiative is tailored to equip participants with essential skills, practical work experience, and a pathway to potential long-term employment opportunities.

ABOUT THE EPWP GRADUATE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME:

The EPWP is a national government initiative aimed at reducing unemployment by creating temporary work opportunities for South Africans, particularly the youth. Within the context of the Harry Gwala District Municipality, the EPWP Graduate Internship Programme focuses specifically on graduates who are unemployed and eager to gain practical experience aligned to their field of study.

This programme runs for a fixed duration of 24 months, providing structured workplace exposure within municipal departments. Interns are placed in various fields such as Finance, Human Resources, Engineering, Information Technology, Environmental Management, Water and Sanitation, and Public Administration.

 

 

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA:

To be considered for the internship, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a South African citizen residing within the Harry Gwala District.
  • Possess a recognized tertiary qualification (National Diploma, Degree, or higher) in a relevant field.
  • Be between the ages of 18 and 35.
  • Be unemployed and not currently enrolled in any other internship or employment programme.

Preference is generally given to previously disadvantaged individuals, including women and people living with disabilities.

  • Confirmation letter from ward Councillor confirming residency and indigence
