City of Joburg Internship Training Programmes 2025

The City of Johannesburg continues to take the lead in empowering young people through dynamic training and development initiatives. As part of its commitment to tackling youth unemployment and strengthening community development, the City has launched Internship Training Programmes focusing on two vital areas: Food Value Chain and Youth Coordination. These programmes are not only about skills transfer but also about building sustainable futures for young South Africans.

Why These Programmes Matter

South Africa faces pressing challenges around food security, youth unemployment, and community cohesion. By creating targeted internships, the City of Joburg is addressing these issues head-on.

  • Food Value Chain Internship: This programme equips young interns with hands-on skills in food production, processing, and distribution. With global food security under constant pressure, participants will gain exposure to the entire chain—learning how to manage agricultural resources, improve supply efficiency, and contribute to sustainable food systems. Graduates of this programme can explore careers in agriculture, agro-processing, logistics, and community food initiatives.
  • Youth Coordinator Internship: Youth Coordinators are the backbone of community development programmes. This internship is designed to train passionate young people in planning, implementing, and evaluating youth-focused projects. From education campaigns and career expos to sports and social development programmes, Youth Coordinators will serve as catalysts for change, ensuring that youth voices are heard and their needs are met.
