Air Traffic Services (ATS) Bursary Programme for 2026

Air Traffic Services (ATS) Bursary Programme 2026

The Air Traffic Services (ATS) Bursary Programme stands as one of South Africa’s most impactful initiatives aimed at empowering aspiring aviation professionals. Managed by the Air Traffic and Navigation Services (ATNS) SOC Limited, this programme seeks to address the country’s growing need for highly skilled air traffic controllers, flight information officers, and aviation support personnel by offering fully funded bursaries to talented, deserving individuals.

What is the ATS Bursary Programme?

The ATS Bursary Programme is a fully funded opportunity that covers the academic and practical training required to become an Air Traffic Services Officer. This includes the study of air traffic control (ATC), aerodrome control, approach control, and en-route control. The training takes place at the ATNS Aviation Training Academy in Bonaero Park, Gauteng — a world-class institution recognised by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

This programme is designed to fast-track previously disadvantaged youth and underrepresented groups into the aviation sector, thereby promoting diversity, equity, and transformation within the industry.

The various Air Traffic Services bursar streams are listed as follows:

  • Air Traffic Services Officer (ATSO)
  • Aeronautical Information Management Officer (AIMO)
  • Target Generating Officer (TGO)
  • Airport Management Centre (AMC) Liaison Officer
  • Simulator Support Officer (SSO)

  • Full tuition fees at the ATNS Aviation Training Academy
  • Accommodation and meals
  • Transport allowance
  • Training material and uniforms

With all basic needs covered, students can focus entirely on their intensive theoretical and practical training.
