The Umzimvubu Local Municipality, located in the Alfred Nzo District of the Eastern Cape, is committed to tackling unemployment, poverty, and inequality through its Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP). This initiative is part of the national EPWP drive that provides temporary work opportunities while empowering participants with valuable skills and experience to help them access future employment or entrepreneurial opportunities.

For many unemployed youth and residents, the programme offers not just short-term relief, but also a steppingstone towards long-term self-sustainability and career growth.

What is EPWP?

The Expanded Public Works Programme is a government initiative aimed at creating jobs in communities through labour-intensive projects. Participants are engaged in work opportunities ranging from infrastructure development to social, environmental, and cultural services.

Umzimvubu Municipality implements EPWP projects that benefit both the local economy and the surrounding communities while promoting inclusivity and empowerment of women, youth, and persons with disabilities.

POSITIONS: EXPANDED PUBLIC WORKS PROGRAMME (EPWP) 

DURATION: 24 MONTHS FIXED TERM CONTRACT

POSTSTIPENDREQUIREMENTS
EPWP: PUBLIC PARTICIPATION ASSISTANTR3 388 PER MONTHGrade 12 • ND in Public Relations/ Public Management/ Public Administration or equivalent qualification
EPWP: LEGAL ASSISTANT

 

R3 388 PER MONTHGrade 12 • N6 legal secretary course or national diploma in law. Being in possession of a LLB degree will be an added advantage
EPWP: ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATOR

 

R3 388 PER MONTHGrade 12 • Environmental Education and Training course • one year working experience as an Environmental Educator
EPWP: RANGERR2 786 PER MONTHGrade 10 • Must be physically fit
