Why This Programme Matters
South Africa’s biodiversity is one of its greatest assets, but it faces threats from climate change, illegal poaching, and unsustainable resource use. By employing and training young people as environmental monitors, SANParks ensures that the next generation is both empowered and directly involved in safeguarding natural heritage.
The programme also aligns with government efforts to tackle unemployment by offering meaningful work experience, especially for rural youth who might otherwise lack access to job opportunities.
Our Conclusion
The SANParks EPWP Environmental Monitors Programme stands as a beacon of hope — where youth empowerment meets environmental protection. It is not just a job creation initiative, but a long-term investment in people and nature. For young South Africans who are passionate about conservation and eager to grow their careers in environmental and tourism sectors, this programme offers an invaluable stepping stone.
