What Is the NDM Internship Programme?
The Internship Programme at Nkangala District Municipality is a fixed-term initiative designed to cultivate the next generation of public-sector professionals. Through hands-on assignments, mentorship, and structured training, the programme equips interns with practical skills in municipal governance, service delivery, and community engagement. It aligns with the Municipal Financial Management Internship Programme (MFMIP), which focuses on strategic planning, budgeting, and financial management to strengthen local government capacity
Who Can Apply?
- Citizenship & Residence: Open to unemployed South African graduates residing within the Nkangala district; proof of residence is required and will be verified
- Educational Qualifications: Depending on the role, applicants need a minimum of a National Diploma (NQF Level 6) or a Bachelor’s degree (NQF Level 7) in relevant fields such as Finance, Public Administration, Environmental Health, Communication, or Town and Regional Planning
- Experience: No prior work experience is required; however, a demonstrated commitment to community development and professional growth is essential.
Available Internship Positions:
- Finance Intern
- Support budget preparation, expenditure tracking, and financial reporting.
- Gain exposure to municipal financial systems and audit processes.
- General Administration Intern
- Assist corporate services units with file management, records keeping, and stakeholder coordination.
- Develop skills in office procedures and administrative best practices.
- Environmental Health Practitioner Intern
- Conduct health and safety inspections, monitor environmental risks, and help enforce public‐health regulations.
- Contribute to programmes that safeguard community well-being.
- Development Control Planner Intern (x2)
- Support spatial planning, land‐use compliance, and development‐application assessments.
- Work closely with planning officials to ensure sustainable land development.
Stipend & Duration: Interns receive a competitive stipend—up to R78,000 per annum for LGSETA-funded roles—and contracts typically run for 12 months, with some specialised streams extending to 24 months
