In a significant move to combat youth unemployment and bridge the digital skills gap in South Africa, Workplace & Entrepreneurship Talent Solutions (WETS), in partnership with the Media, Information and Communication Technologies Sector Education and Training Authority (MICT SETA), has launched an exciting IT Systems Support Learnership Programme. This initiative is designed to equip young South Africans with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in the ICT field—focusing on Information Technology (IT) Systems Support.
About the Programme
The WETS-MICT SETA IT Systems Support Learnership Programme is a fully accredited 12-month training initiative that blends classroom-based learning with real-world workplace experience. It targets unemployed youth aged 18–35 who are passionate about starting a career in IT, particularly in areas such as system configuration, user support, troubleshooting, and network maintenance.
Participants will work toward achieving the National Certificate in IT: Systems Support (NQF Level 5)—a qualification that is both industry-relevant and highly respected within the technology sector. The curriculum covers core IT modules such as hardware and software installation, network setup, operating systems, and IT service management principles.
Why It Matters
With the 4th Industrial Revolution transforming the way businesses operate, the demand for skilled IT professionals continues to rise. However, many South African youths still face limited access to quality training and employment opportunities. This learnership programme not only builds technical competence but also develops soft skills like communication, teamwork, and problem-solving—crucial attributes in today’s digital economy.
The initiative aligns with MICT SETA’s mandate to promote skills development in the media and ICT sectors while contributing to the broader goals of the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP). By partnering with WETS, a reputable training and talent development provider, MICT SETA ensures that learners receive holistic training from experienced facilitators and gain exposure to real-world business environments.
