Programme Overview

The OHS Compliance Internship at Tswelopele Local Municipality is designed to equip young professionals with practical knowledge and regulatory understanding related to occupational health and safety standards, especially within municipal operations. Interns will be placed in various departments to observe, assist, and actively contribute to the municipality’s safety compliance systems, policies, and daily safety checks.

Participants will work closely with seasoned OHS officers and municipal leaders, ensuring alignment with national safety legislation such as the Occupational Health and Safety Act (No. 85 of 1993). This mentorship-driven model provides an ideal learning platform for graduates who aspire to contribute meaningfully to organizational health and safety culture.

 

 

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

The internship targets unemployed graduates who hold a National Diploma or Degree in the following fields:

  • Occupational Health and Safety
  • Environmental Health
  • Safety Management
  • Risk Management
  • Public Management (with a focus on compliance)

Applicants must be between 18 and 35 years old, possess strong communication and analytical skills, and demonstrate a keen interest in compliance, risk assessment, and community welfare.

Key Responsibilities:

Interns will gain exposure and perform tasks such as:

  • Assisting in hazard identification and risk assessment
  • Participating in safety audits and inspections
  • Helping enforce safety policies and procedures
  • Compiling OHS reports and incident documentation
  • Promoting awareness campaigns across municipal workplaces

 

 

Duration and Benefits:

This is a 6-month internship, during which successful candidates will receive a monthly stipend of R5197.50, as determined by the municipality and funding partners. The programme is structured to provide both technical workplace experience and professional development, including workshops and compliance training sessions.

Though the internship does not guarantee permanent employment, it significantly enhances the employability of participants through valuable public sector exposure.
