The Prince Albert Municipality, located in the heart of the Western Cape’s Karoo region, is offering a life-changing opportunity for aspiring finance professionals through its Financial Internship Programme. This structured initiative is part of the National Treasury’s Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme (MFMIP) and is tailored to equip recent graduates with practical work experience, financial governance skills, and exposure to public sector accounting principles within a municipal context.
What Is the Financial Internship Programme?
This internship is a two-year, fixed-term contract designed to provide hands-on training and mentorship to graduates in fields related to Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Auditing. Interns will be placed within the financial departments of the municipality, gaining real-world exposure to municipal financial management, supply chain management, budgeting, revenue and expenditure control, asset management, and compliance with the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA).
The programme is aligned with national objectives to strengthen the financial capacity of local municipalities while addressing youth unemployment and skills development. Interns receive not only practical experience but also tailored technical training workshops to enhance their knowledge and skill set.
WHO SHOULD APPLY?
The internship is open to South African citizens who meet the following criteria:
- A three-year Bachelor’s Degree or National Diploma with majors in Accounting, Economics, Finance, Risk Management and/or Auditing.
- Computer literacy (MS Office)
- Good Management, Human Relations, Interpersonal & Communication skills;
- Ability to give attention to detail and work under pressure;
- Effective communication skills in at least two of the three official languages of the Western Cape
- Candidates must be between the ages of 21 and 35.
Applicants must also reside in or have a strong connection to the Prince Albert municipal area, although candidates from surrounding areas may be considered.
