  • Financial Need: Demonstrated financial need, assessed through household income.
  • Academic Performance: A minimum average of 65% in the current or most recent academic year, including 65% in subjects relevant to the intended field of study.
  • Mathematics Requirement: Applicants who completed Grade 12 with Mathematics Literacy are not eligible.
  • Admission: Must have secured admission to a South African public university or university of technology for the intended qualification.

Step 1: Prepare Required Documents

  • Most recent academic transcripts:
    • Grade 11 final and Grade 12 mid-year results (if currently in Grade 12).
    • Grade 12 final and first-year university results (if in first year).
    • Most recent university academic records (if already at university).
  • Completed Financial Checks Affidavit, signed by the applicant and parent(s) or guardian(s).
  • Latest three months’ bank statements for the applicant and parent(s) or guardian(s).

Step 2: Online Application

Applications must be submitted online through the official Nedbank bursary application portal. Incomplete or late applications will not be considered.

Step 3: Additional Documentation for Shortlisted Applicants

If shortlisted, applicants will be required to submit additional documents within seven working days, including:

  • Written consent from parent(s) or guardian(s) for income verification.
  • Completed income and expenditure statement for the household.
  • Certified copies of parent(s) or guardian(s)’ ID documents, recent payslips or proof of income, and latest three months’ bank statements.

Step 4: Assessments and Interviews

Shortlisted candidates will undergo psychometric assessments and virtual interviews as part of the selection process.
