The Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE), Africa’s largest and most respected stock exchange, is not only a hub for financial markets but also a strong advocate for education and empowerment. Guided by Nelson Mandela’s powerful words, “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”, the JSE has established the JSE Empowerment Fund (JEF) to support ambitious young South Africans in achieving their academic and career dreams.

The JSE Bursary Programme for 2026 is a life-changing opportunity designed for top-performing students from disadvantaged backgrounds who are eager to build a successful future in finance, technology, data, and related fields.

Who Can Apply?

The bursary is open to South African citizens from designated groups, with a strong academic record and a passion for excellence. To be considered, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be in their 2nd year, 3rd year, or Honours level of study in 2026.
  • Achieve a minimum average of 70% in their studies.
  • Come from a household with a combined income not exceeding R650 000 per annum.
  • Be registered for full-time study at one of the approved universities.

The bursary focuses on critical fields aligned with South Africa’s economic growth and the JSE’s vision for the future. Students must be pursuing degrees in:

Required Supporting Documents

Applicants must attach clear and certified copies of the following documents:

  • South African ID
  • Proof of registration at a recognized institution
  • Latest academic record
  • Proof of household income (salary slips/affidavit)
  • Proof of residence
