What is an Internship?
In December 2002, Cabinet introduced internships as a graduate work experience initiative within the public service. Internships provide unemployed graduates with a platform to practice the skills they have studied, develop workplace confidence, and prepare for professional careers. For CIPC, this programme is not just about work exposure—it is about empowering youth and shaping future leaders.
Who Can Apply?
The internship is open to:
- Unemployed South African graduates from higher education institutions who have completed their qualifications.
- Graduates without work experience or those who have never participated in an internship before.
- Applicants between the ages of 18 and 35.
Minimum Qualification Requirements:
Applicants must hold an Honours Degree or Postgraduate Diploma (NQF Level 8) in one of the following fields:
- Strategic Management
- Public Administration / Public Management
- Philosophy, Politics and Economics (PPE)
- Business Management / Business Administration
- Public Policy
- International Relations
- Data Science
- Research
- Monitoring & Evaluation

- Updated Curriculum Vitae (CV)
- Certified copy of ID document
- Academic transcript and qualification (to be uploaded together as one document under the “supporting documents” section)
Failure to upload the required documents, or to place them in the correct section, will lead to automatic disqualification.
It is also the applicant’s responsibility to ensure foreign qualifications are evaluated by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA). Shortlisted candidates will be contacted for interviews at a date and time determined by CIPC.
