The University of Johannesburg (UJ), in collaboration with the Culture, Art, Tourism, Hospitality, and Sport Sector Education and Training Authority (CATHSSETA), is offering an exciting Internship Programme for 2025–2026. This initiative provides recent graduates with a chance to gain hands-on work experience, build professional networks, and develop industry-specific skills within UJ’s dynamic Arts & Culture Division.
With 17 internship positions across four specialised fields, this programme is ideal for graduates seeking to turn their academic knowledge into practical expertise. The internships will commence in December 2025 and run for 12 months, with each successful candidate receiving a monthly stipend of R5,000 (subject to statutory deductions).
Available Internship Opportunities
- Copywriting Internships (4 positions)
Interns will be mentored in creating engaging written content for social media campaigns, adverts, media statements, magazines, and online platforms. This role focuses on enhancing writing, creative thinking, planning, organising, and computer literacy skills.
Minimum Requirements:
- Postgraduate degree or higher.
- Relevant qualification in Journalism or Copywriting from a public university.
- Multimedia Internships (10 positions)
Interns will gain experience in animating content, social media advertising, archiving, recording interviews, video editing, and producing showreels. The mentorship will focus on film-making, animation, innovation, and creative design skills.
Minimum Requirements:
- Postgraduate degree or higher.
- Relevant qualification in Multimedia from a public university.
- Performing Arts Administration Internships (2 positions)
Interns will be exposed to administrative functions, programme coordination, and project planning within performing arts. Skills development will include communication, event planning, creative problem-solving, and organisational abilities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Postgraduate degree or higher.
- Relevant qualification in Performing Arts from a public university.
- Hospitality Internship (1 position)
This role will focus on Front-of-House (FOH) operations, including venue, bar, and coffee shop duties. Interns will also handle emails, stakeholder enquiries, and coordination with marketing, operations, and guest services teams. They will develop event planning, customer service, teamwork, and communication skills.
Minimum Requirements:
- Postgraduate degree or higher.
- Relevant qualification in Hospitality Management from a public university.
