MerSETA EPWP Funded Technical Programmes for Unemployed Youth 2025 – 2027

 

 

The Drakenstein Municipality, in collaboration with the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA), proudly invites applications from unemployed local youth aged 18 to 30 for a life-changing technical apprenticeship opportunity for a period of 24 Months. This initiative is part of a strategic effort to empower young people through skills development and create pathways to employment in the critical automotive sector.

Programme Overview: Apprenticeship in Automotive Mechanics

This technical programme offers an Occupational Certificate in Automotive Mechanics, preparing learners with the practical and theoretical knowledge required to diagnose, maintain, and repair modern motor vehicles. With the ever-evolving landscape of automotive technology, this qualification is designed to meet the demands of the industry and ensure that successful candidates become competitive and employable professionals.

This opportunity is open to 12 dedicated learners who will be selected to join the apprenticeship programme and benefit from structured training that combines both classroom instruction and hands-on workplace experience. It is a golden chance for youth who are passionate about mechanics and aspire to build a career in the motor industry.

 

 

Entry Requirements

To be considered for this prestigious apprenticeship, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Age: 18 – 30 years old
  • Residency: Must reside within the Drakenstein Municipality jurisdiction
  • Education: Must have completed Grade 12 with a pass in Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
  • Commitment: Must demonstrate a strong interest in automotive mechanics and a willingness to commit to the full duration of the programme

Only one application per applicant will be accepted, so it is crucial that applicants choose the programme they are most passionate about.

  • Personal cover letter
  • Comprehensive Curriculum Vitae
  • Certified ID copy qualification/ results and academic record (including most recent with certification not older than 3 months)
  • Municipal Account letter/ Municipal Utility Bill as proof of residence

Please note that no CV’s will be returned on the applicant’s request, therefore please do not send us your original certificates.

    I’ve been reading majority requirements for skill development programs for youth,the age category is from 18 – 30 or 35,I’m a 37 year old male and I’m intrested in gaining more skills.
    I reside in Capetown Ottery,l’m a registered EPWP worker.
