Chrysalis Academy, a renowned youth development institution based in the Western Cape, continues its commitment to transforming lives and building resilient communities. As part of its evolving training ecosystem, the Academy is calling on its alumni to seize an exciting opportunity: apply to become Junior Instructors (Interns) or NatureWorx Facilitators (Interns). This internship programme is designed for Chrysalis Academy graduates only who are passionate about youth development, outdoor education, leadership, and personal transformation.
What is Chrysalis Academy?
Established in 2000, Chrysalis Academy has carved out a significant space in the realm of youth development in South Africa. Its flagship programme targets young people aged 18–25, offering a holistic, 3-month residential training focused on physical fitness, leadership, environmental awareness, life skills, and community service. Many graduates leave the programme empowered, disciplined, and driven to make a difference in their communities.
The Internship Opportunity
The Academy is now recruiting former graduates to return—not as students, but as leaders. The two internship streams available are:
- Junior Instructor Internships
Junior Instructors play a crucial role in facilitating daily routines, mentoring current students, managing discipline, and leading by example. This position is ideal for alumni who exhibited leadership potential during their training and want to refine their facilitation and coaching skills.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist senior instructors in managing platoons
- Facilitate sessions on leadership, discipline, and fitness
- Serve as a mentor and role model to current trainees
- Uphold the Academy’s code of conduct
- NatureWorx Facilitator Internships
NatureWorx is an environmental education programme that blends outdoor learning with personal development. Interns in this stream will lead environmental awareness activities, hikes, and eco-therapy sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct nature-based experiential learning activities
- Promote environmental stewardship and wellbeing
- Facilitate eco-conscious workshops and nature connection sessions
- Assist in planning and evaluating NatureWorx programmes
Who Should Apply?
This opportunity is open exclusively to graduates of Chrysalis Academy who have:
- Matric Certificate / Grade 12.
- Completed the Chrysalis Academy’s 3-month residential or 8-week community-based programme.
- Not currently in employment, education or training.
- No criminal record.
- Youth work experience is advantageous.
- Excellent fitness levels.
- Passionate about youth work and outdoor group coordination.
- The ability to work flexi-time, in line with the Academy’s course calendar is essential.
- Must be a non-smoker and have sober habits.
