In a continued effort to promote skills development and reduce youth unemployment, Emfuleni Local Municipality is offering a strategic opportunity for unemployed graduates through its Financial Management Grant (FMG) Internship Programme. This programme is part of a national initiative backed by the National Treasury to strengthen financial management in municipalities, while also equipping young South Africans with hands-on experience in the public finance sector.

What is the FMG Internship Programme?

The Financial Management Grant (FMG) is an initiative by the National Treasury of South Africa that aims to promote sound financial governance in municipalities. As part of this initiative, municipalities like Emfuleni are funded to host finance-related internship programmes that target unemployed graduates.

The Emfuleni FMG Internship Programme is a 24 – 36 month fixed-term contract designed for graduates in the financial management field. Interns are placed within the municipality’s finance department and gain exposure to key municipal financial functions such as budgeting, revenue management, financial reporting, supply chain management, and auditing.

 

 

Who Can Apply?

The programme is open to unemployed South African youth who meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a National Diploma or Degree in one of the following:
    • Accounting
    • Financial Management
    • Cost and Management Accounting
    • Internal Auditing
    • Public Finance or equivalent
  • Aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Reside within Emfuleni Local Municipality or surrounding areas (preferred)
  • Have no prior internship or work experience in the same field within government
