AFGRI Apprenticeship Programme for Matriculants 2026

AFGRI Apprenticeship Programme for Matriculants for 2026

South Africa’s agricultural industry is the backbone of food security, rural development, and economic sustainability. At the heart of this industry is the need for well-trained artisans who can maintain and repair the machinery that drives agricultural production. AFGRI, a leading agricultural services company, has answered this call with its comprehensive Apprenticeship Programme for Matriculants—a transformative skills development initiative designed to empower young South Africans with the technical expertise and practical experience needed in the sector.

What is the AFGRI Apprenticeship Programme?

The AFGRI Apprenticeship Programme is a structured, NQF-accredited training opportunity focused on developing artisans in fields such as Diesel Mechanics, Millwrights, and Electricians. Specifically tailored for young South Africans who have passed Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science, the programme provides both theoretical instruction and hands-on workplace experience.

The apprenticeship typically spans three years, during which learners will gain access to:

  • In-depth classroom training at AFGRI’s world-class training centres.
  • On-the-job practical experience in AFGRI’s vast workshop network.
  • Mentorship and guidance from experienced artisans and engineers.
  • Full sponsorship covering tuition, materials, tools, and protective clothing.

Upon successful completion, participants write the national trade test to become qualified artisans—a career-changing milestone that opens up employment both within AFGRI and across the broader agricultural and mechanical services sectors.

The duties of the Apprentice will include:

  • Trained to be a Tractor Mechanic / Technician or Earthmoving Mechanic / Technician
  • Repair and maintenance of related equipment
  • Responsible for stock control
  • Customer service
  • General work in the workplace

AFGRI specifically targets unemployed matriculants with a strong interest in mechanical or technical careers. To qualify for the programme, applicants must:

  • Be South African citizens aged 18 to 25 years.
  • Have completed Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • Demonstrate a keen interest in agricultural machinery and technical work.
