WHAT IS THE MFMIP?
The Municipal Finance Management Internship Programme is an initiative by the National Treasury, rolled out across municipalities in South Africa, including the Karoo Hoogland Municipality. The programme’s goal is to strengthen municipal financial capacity by developing a pool of skilled finance professionals who are well-versed in the principles and practices of public financial management.
Interns are placed in the municipality’s finance department for a two-year contract, where they gain exposure to key areas such as budgeting, financial reporting, supply chain management, and internal auditing. This practical experience complements their academic qualifications and serves as a stepping stone to a rewarding career in local government or the broader public sector.
Who Can Apply?
The programme is open to South African citizens who have recently graduated with a National Diploma or BCom Degree in one of the following fields:
- Accounting
- Finance
- Economics
- Auditing
- Risk Management
- Internal Auditing
- Public Financial Management
- The candidate must be between the ages of 21 and 35.
Applicants should be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and committed to ethical leadership and service excellence. No prior work experience is required, making this an ideal opportunity for new graduates looking to gain workplace experience.
