SOP GUIDE FOR THE MANAGEMENT AND CONTAINMENT OF COVID -19 FOR SCHOOLS
Written by Sifiso Mhlongo

The Standard Operating Procedure for the Management and Containment of COVID-19 in Schools and School Communities provides guidelines for all administrators on the approved steps that must be taken to prevent the spread of, and manage cases of COVID-19 within the basic education sector.

The objectives of the SOP are to:

  • help administrators of primary and secondary schools (hereafter referred to as “schools”) to prevent the spread of COVID-19 among learners, educators, support staff and officials;
  • provide considerations for the isolation of suspected cases of COVID-19;
  • help schools to understand the protocol to be followed should a case of COVID-19 be suspected or identified; and
  • detail the procedures for the closure of schools due to COVID-19.

As EDUPSTAIRS we advise all applicants who have applied for the Gauteng Department of Education Covid – 19 Response Programme to familiarize themselves with these guidelines in case there are interviews that could take place at the school to which you have applied. Learning about these guidelines will improve your chances of getting the job since you will have more knowledge on how to handle and manage the containment of COVID 19 in a school. You need to be prepared!
