The SIOC Community Development Trust (SIOC-CDT) continues its mission of empowering South African youth through education by inviting applications for the 2026 Bursary Programme. This initiative is designed to create sustainable livelihoods by supporting learners and students from SIOC-CDT’s beneficiary communities: Gamagara, Ga-Segonyana, Joe Morolong, Tsantsabane, and Thabazimbi.

The bursary provides a golden opportunity for ambitious youth to pursue tertiary education, particularly those facing financial challenges, with a strong emphasis on undergraduate studies.
Who Can Apply?
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Be a South African citizen residing in or originating from the listed beneficiary communities.
- Be 35 years or younger at the time of application.
- Be accepted or provisionally accepted at a public higher education institution for the 2026 academic year.
- Be in financial need and require support for undergraduate or postgraduate studies (priority is given to undergraduate applicants).
- People with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.
Fields of Study Supported
SIOC-CDT prioritises fields critical to South Africa’s socio-economic growth. These include:
- Agriculture & Veterinary Sciences: Agricultural Engineer, Veterinarian, Livestock Product Analyst, Food Technologist, Food Technician, Agricultural Economist.
- Health & Clinical Sciences: MBChB, Pharmacy, Dentistry, Advanced EMS, Nursing, Medical Lab Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemical and Biological Sciences.
- Education: BEd. Foundation Phase, BEd. Special Needs, BEd. Natural Sciences, BEd. Mathematics, BEd. Physical Science, BEd. Languages, BEd. EMS.
- Law: LLB.
- Tourism & Culture: Hospitality Management, Eco-Tourism, Arts and Culture Heritage.
- Business & Economics: Accounting, Auditing and Tax, Economics, Actuarial Science, Project Management, Statistics, Business Management.
- Engineering & Built Environment: Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Geology, Architecture, Quantity Surveying, Town Planning, Environmental Health.
- ICT & Digital Sciences: Computer Science, Data Science, Software Development, Web Design, Information and Communication Technology.
What the Bursary Covers
Successful applicants will receive comprehensive financial support to ease their academic journey. The bursary covers:
- Tuition and registration fees
- Accommodation
- Prescribed study material
- Laptop provision
- Monthly stipend
- Assistive devices for students with disabilities
This holistic support ensures beneficiaries can focus entirely on their studies without financial burden.
Application Process
Applicants must submit the completed bursary application form along with the following supporting documents:
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Recent proof of residence (not older than 3 months)
- Certified copies of latest academic results (Grade 12 June/Prelims/Final, or university results if already enrolled)
- Proof of acceptance or provisional acceptance at a recognised public higher education institution
- Proof of parent/guardian’s income (recent payslip, affidavit of unemployment, or SASSA grant confirmation)
- Certified copy of NSC certificate if matric was completed prior to 2025
- Medical certificate confirming disability (if applicable)
Completed applications must be submitted to the SIOC-CDT Bursary Office before the closing date.
