South African unemployed youth, especially in Mpumalanga and surrounding communities, have a major opportunity to step into a future-proof career field. The Energy & Water Sector Education and Training Authority (EWSETA) is funding a 12-month National Certificate: Water & Wastewater Process Control Learnership (SAQA ID 60190), implemented by Leadership in Water Innovation (LWI) in partnership with Thembisile Hani Local Municipality.

This programme is specifically designed to skill youth for employment in one of South Africa’s most critical sectors: clean water, sanitation, and wastewater management. With infrastructure development and water security becoming a national priority, this learnership offers a pathway toward long-term, meaningful employment.

Minimum Requirements

To apply, applicants must meet the following:

  • Be a South African citizen
  • Be unemployed
  • Preferably reside in or near Thembisile Hani Local Municipality
  • Completed Matric (Grade 12) – Mathematics or Physical Science is helpful but not compulsory
  • Be willing to learn technical skills
  • Be prepared for both theory and practical workplace exposure
  • Able to commit to the full 12-month programme
