Purpose of the Programme
This internship is designed to expose graduates to the integration of Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles within a Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT). Interns will gain insight into how sustainability is embedded into property investments, asset management, and reporting frameworks. A core part of the role also focuses on Green Building objectives, with close collaboration with the Green Building Council of South Africa (GBCSA).
Interns will provide administrative, research, and project support to ensure sustainability deliverables are aligned with Redefine’s ESG strategy.
Key Responsibilities
As part of the programme, interns will contribute across several focus areas:
- Data Collection & Management: Gathering ESG-related information from stakeholders, validating data, and ensuring accuracy on reporting platforms.
- Research & Benchmarking: Conducting research on ESG trends, regulatory updates, and green building certification requirements. Identifying opportunities to improve building performance for recertification and ESG ratings.
- Reporting Support: Assisting in the preparation of ESG reports and disclosures, including frameworks like GRI, CSRD, ISSB, and GRESB.
- Project Support: Coordinating sustainability initiatives such as energy and water efficiency, waste reduction, social investment activities, and green building certifications.
- General Administration: Maintaining ESG documentation, preparing meeting notes, scheduling, and processing payments.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Contributing to internal awareness campaigns and liaising with teams to track project progress.
Experience and Qualifications
Applicants must hold a relevant tertiary qualification in the built environment or environmental studies. Professional accreditation and prior ESG experience would be an added advantage.
Skills required include:
- Strong administrative and organisational skills.
- Data management and analysis ability.
- Excellent research and report writing skills.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
A basic understanding of ESG concepts and familiarity with sustainability reporting standards are essential, along with an interest in climate change, social impact, and governance in the real estate sector.
