PURPOSE:
Responsible for maintenance and repair of Metrobus bus fleet including but not limited to inspecting, diagnosing, and repairing diesel engines, transmissions, and other components of Metrobus buses. The position ensures the bus fleet operates safely, efficiently, and reliably.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Matric/ Grade 12 Certificate or equivalent qualification at NQF level 4
- NTC 3 qualification showing completion of mechanical courses and Trade Test Certificate: Diesel Mechanic.
- A minimum of two years post Trade Test functional experience as a Diesel Mechanic, preferably on large fleet of high – Tech Buses/Vehicles.
- Experience in using Bus specific diagnostic tools and equipment for diesel motors or similar equipment will serve as an advantage.
- Driver’s license: Code C; Code EB.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS:
Responsible for Maintenance and Repairs of Bus fleet at Metrobus.
- Inspect and diagnose issues with diesel engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension, and electrical systems, preferably by using modern diagnostic tools and equipment.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks (oil changes, filter replacements, etc.).
- Repair or replace faulty components, including engines, transmissions, and axles.
- Conduct Road tests to identify and troubleshoot issues.
Responsible for ensuring Bus Safety and Quality during and after all repairs and maintenance.
- Ensure all repairs meet safety and quality standards set and observed in Metrobus.
- Adhere to Metrobus company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repairs of all bus fleet assigned under own

Work as part of a team in Technical Services and advocate maximum team Collaboration:
- Works closely with Technical Services personnel namely, Artisan Aides; Admin staff, Managers; supervisors, and drivers to resolve technical issues.
- Provide technical guidance and training to Apprentices and Artisan Aides.
- Participate in the Department’s service delivery improvement initiatives by making contributions and suggestions to improve service delivery.
Responsible for execution of administrative duties at Artisan level:
- Complete work orders, inspection reports, and maintenance records.
- Order parts and materials as needed.
- Monitor inventory levels and report discrepancies.
