The Inkomati-Usuthu Catchment Management Agency (IUCMA) plays a vital role in managing South Africa’s precious water resources within the Inkomati and Usuthu water management areas, covering parts of Mpumalanga, Limpopo, and KwaZulu-Natal. WHAT IS THE IUCMA GRADUATE INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME?

The IUCMA Graduate Internship Programme in partnership with and funded primarily by the Energy and Water Sector Education Training Authority (EWSETA) is a structured and funded initiative designed to offer recent graduates hands-on experience in the water sector and public service. This programme is aligned with South Africa’s broader strategy to empower youth through skills development, employment readiness, and sector-specific expertise.

Typically running for 24 months, the internship gives successful candidates real-world exposure under the mentorship of experienced professionals across a variety of departments. Interns are equipped with not only technical knowledge but also practical skills required in a competitive job market.

 

 

FIELDS OF INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES:

IUCMA accepts applications from a range of academic disciplines, with key focus areas including:

  • Water Resource Management
  • Environmental Science
  • Hydrology
  • Geographical Information Systems (GIS)
  • Finance and Accounting
  • Supply Chain Management
  • Human Resource Management
  • Legal Services
  • Information Technology

 MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

To qualify for the IUCMA Graduate Internship Programme, applicants must generally meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen between the ages of 18 and 35
  • Have completed a relevant National Diploma, BTech, or Degree from a recognized institution
  • Be unemployed and have no prior internship experience in the public sector
  • Demonstrate a strong academic record and willingness to learn

Preference is often given to graduates residing within the IUCMA catchment areas, especially those from historically disadvantaged communities.

  • A comprehensive CV
  • A certified copy of your ID
  • Certified academic transcripts and qualifications
  • A motivational cover letter
  • Driver’s License

NO FAXED, EMAILED AND LATE APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED.

Candidates who graduated must submit certified copies of the qualifications. Candidates still to graduate can submit an endorsed academic record that states completion date of the qualification and the date of the graduation.
