Forek Institute of Technology Skills Training Programme for 2025

Forek Institute of Technology Skills Training Programme for 2025

In a powerful initiative aimed at empowering unemployed youth and enhancing local skills development, Forek Institute of Technology, in partnership with Ehlanzeni District Municipality, and funded by the Local Government SETA (LGSETA), has launched the Assistant Handyperson Skills Training Programme. This targeted intervention is not just a training programme—it is a stepping stone to employment, entrepreneurship, and community upliftment.

Empowering Local Communities Through Skills Development

The Assistant Handyperson Skills Training Programme is designed to equip participants with practical, hands-on skills in general maintenance and repair. These include essential competencies in plumbing, painting, basic electrical work, carpentry, tiling, and general facility upkeep. With these highly transferable skills, beneficiaries are empowered to secure jobs in the maintenance sector or start their own businesses.

This initiative is part of the broader national drive to combat youth unemployment through vocational training and skills transfer. LGSETA’s funding reflects a commitment to addressing the local skills gap, while Ehlanzeni District Municipality plays a key role in community mobilization and logistical support.

Who Can Apply?

The programme is targeted at:

  • Unemployed youth, especially those without formal qualifications.
  • Residents of Ehlanzeni District, including areas like Mbombela, Bushbuckridge, and surrounding municipalities.
  • Individuals eager to gain technical skills and work in infrastructure maintenance or small-scale repairs.

Applicants should be South African citizens between the ages of 18–35 and must provide proof of residence and a certified copy of their ID. While no previous experience is required, candidates with a passion for hands-on work will have an advantage.

What Does the Programme Offer?

The training is fully funded by LGSETA, ensuring participants receive:

  • Free accredited training facilitated by Forek Institute of Technology.
  • A monthly stipend to support them during the training period.
  • Workplace exposure through municipal infrastructure projects and community-based assignments.
  • A nationally recognised skills certificate upon completion.

Why This Programme Matters

In many South African communities, there’s a dire need for reliable handypersons to maintain homes, schools, clinics, and municipal buildings. This programme bridges that gap by producing job-ready individuals who can offer their services both in the formal and informal sectors.

Moreover, by prioritizing local residents, the programme ensures that skills remain in the community, promoting sustainable local development and reducing dependency on external contractors.

How to Apply

Applications must be done online at www.yoms.azurewebsites.net OR email at info@forek.co.za

The Assistant Handyperson Skills Training Programme is more than just training—it is an invitation to change lives, empower youth, and build resilient communities from the ground up.

  • Good evening/good day
It would be a privilege to participate in several training programs,
especially the “assistant handyman skills training program”.
I’m a 38 year old male from Capetown Ottery, aren’t there any fully funded skills training programs for individuals who is above the age category?
