Requirements
To qualify, applicants must meet the following minimum criteria:
- NQF Level 2 or equivalent (a higher qualification is an advantage)
- Good verbal, reading and writing skills
- Basic knowledge of:
- Water distribution control and management
- Government water works
- Occupational Health & Safety
- Flood control principles
- Record keeping and reporting
Duties and Responsibilities
Successful candidates will perform essential operational functions, including:
- Opening and closing sluices according to scheme regulations
- Managing water distribution sheets
- Performing minor maintenance on sluices, fencing and structures
- Unblocking pipes and canals
- Removing algae and water grass
- Conducting daily inspections
- Reporting cracks, leaks, holes and defects on water infrastructure
- Cleaning canal grids, gauge plates and structures
- Painting sluices and ensuring numbering visibility
- Repairing minor washouts and maintaining equipment
- Ensuring all stores, tools and post boxes are locked and secure
These roles are hands-on and require alertness, attention to detail and a commitment to public service.
