The National Radioactive Waste Disposal Institute (NRWDI) is offering an exciting opportunity for South African youth to participate in its 2025 Internship Programme. These internships are designed to provide practical workplace experience, industry-specific training, and professional development to unemployed graduates across various fields. Successful candidates will be placed on a 12-month contract and receive a monthly stipend of R8 500.

This initiative aims to empower young professionals between the ages of 18 – 35 years by giving them the skills, knowledge, and exposure needed to excel in their chosen careers, while also contributing to South Africa’s critical work in nuclear waste management, governance, and public service.

Available Internship Opportunities

  1. Science, Engineering and Technology Intern

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree/National Diploma in Physics, Chemistry, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Interest in science and technology innovation.

Duties:

  • Assist in scientific research, laboratory work, and technical projects.
  • Support environmental monitoring and waste management initiatives.
  • Contribute to developing innovative solutions in radioactive waste disposal.

 

  1. Office of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Intern

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/National Diploma in Public Administration, Political Science, Communication, or related fields.
  • Strong organisational, communication, and report-writing skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work under pressure.

Duties:

  • Provide administrative and strategic support to the CEO’s office.
  • Assist in coordinating meetings, stakeholder engagements, and presentations.
  • Draft reports, manage correspondence, and support governance processes.

 

 

  1. Finance / Supply Chain Management Intern

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/National Diploma in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Supply Chain, or Logistics.
  • Good numerical, analytical, and MS Excel skills.
  • Knowledge of PFMA and other financial regulations will be an advantage.

Duties:

  • Assist with financial reporting, budgeting, and expenditure monitoring.
  • Support procurement, supply chain administration, and compliance functions.
  • Help maintain accurate records and contribute to audits.

 

  1. Human Resources / Legal Intern

Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree/National Diploma in Human Resource Management, Labour Relations, or Law.
  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
  • Familiarity with HR practices, labour law, or legal research.

Duties:

  • Assist with recruitment, training, and employee relations activities.
  • Support HR administration, records management, and compliance.
  • Conduct basic legal research, draft documents, and assist with policy development.
