The Midvaal Local Municipality, based in Meyerton, Gauteng, is calling upon determined, disciplined, and passionate individuals to apply for its Fire Fighter Internship Programme (X12 Posts). This programme is offered on a three-year contract, providing an excellent opportunity for structured training and professional growth. Successful applicants will receive a competitive stipend of R8,786.58 per month (R105,439.00 per annum). With only 12 positions available, this opportunity is highly competitive and ideal for individuals who meet the physical, academic, and technical requirements.

Minimum Requirements

To be considered, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
  • Firefighter 1 & 2, Hazmat Awareness and Operations certificates or equivalent.
  • First Aid Level 3 or a Basic Ambulance Course.
  • A valid Code C driver’s license.
  • Medically and physically fit to handle operational duties.
  • Ability to swim.
  • Must not suffer from phobias such as claustrophobia (fear of confined spaces) or acrophobia (fear of heights).
  • Knowledge or experience in fire and rescue will be an advantage.
  • Must be hardworking, disciplined, and dedicated.
  • A minimum of 3 months internship experience will serve as an added advantage.

 

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

As part of the Fire Fighter Internship Programme, successful candidates will undergo training and actively participate in operational duties. Responsibilities include:

  • Reporting daily to the Station Officer and adhering to task orders.
  • Routine attendance and commitment to workplace duties.
  • Conducting vehicle and equipment checks to ensure readiness for emergencies.
  • Cleaning and maintaining fire equipment and vehicles.
  • Reporting malfunctions or safety concerns to supervisors.
  • Responding to fire incidents under the guidance of senior personnel.
  • Combatting grass, wildland, and structural fires.
  • Protecting lives, property, and municipal resources from fire hazards.
  • Performing rescue work, including emergency response in life-threatening situations.
  • Supporting control room duties when required.
  • Carrying out any other task assigned by the Station Officer or senior officials.
