The Gauteng Department of Economic Development has partnered with EASTC Technocentric Varsity to launch an exciting Skills Development Programme designed to empower unemployed youth. This initiative focuses on providing high-quality technical and vocational training in the Clothing, Textile, Leather, and Footwear (CTLF) sector — one of South Africa’s growing industries with vast potential for entrepreneurship and employment.
This programme is not just training; it’s a gateway for young people to gain practical, hands-on experience and prepare for future opportunities in the world of manufacturing and design.
What the Programme Offers
The Clothing, Textile, Leather, and Footwear Development Programme will run for 12 months in the City of Tshwane, combining classroom learning with practical training. Participants will gain skills in:
- Clothing Manufacturing – cutting, sewing, and garment production.
- Textile Processing – fabric preparation and treatment.
- Leather Goods Production – creating quality leather items such as bags, belts, and accessories.
- Footwear Design – design and production of durable, stylish shoes.
By the end of the programme, candidates will not only have industry-ready skills but will also be better positioned to seek employment or start their own businesses.
Minimum Requirements
To apply, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be between the ages of 18 and 35.
- Reside in the City of Tshwane and be able to commute to the training location.
- Have at least a Grade 10 education.
- Be currently unemployed.
- Show a genuine interest in the CTLF sector.
- Commit to completing the 12-month training programme.
- Have a passion for manufacturing, textile, leather, and footwear design.

- A detailed Curriculum Vitae (CV).
- A clear copy of your South African ID.
- Copies of your educational qualifications.
- Proof of residence within Tshwane.
