About the Position
The Engineering Assistant role plays a critical support function, working under the guidance of an Artisan or Engineering Supervisor. The purpose of this position is to perform general engineering support and housekeeping activities, ensuring operations run safely and efficiently. It’s the perfect entry-level role for individuals with basic technical knowledge and a willingness to learn in a structured environment.
Qualification Requirements
To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following educational criteria:
- Matric (Grade 12) or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 4
- Relevant NATED courses (e.g., N3 Certificate)
Skills and Experience Requirements
While a year’s experience within the mining industry is preferred, it is not mandatory. Candidates should bring the following skills and attributes:
- Proficiency in the English language
- Basic knowledge of workplace safety and risk assessment procedures
- Ability to manage time effectively and follow instructions
- A solid understanding of workplace processes and procedures
Duties and Responsibilities
As an Engineering Assistant, you will be exposed to various engineering and operational tasks that provide a strong foundation for career growth in mining. Your responsibilities include:
- Supporting engineering activities: Lifting, holding, and positioning parts and materials for repair or assembly.
- Assisting with dismantling and re-assembling components under the supervision of artisans.
- Loading and off-loading materials onto and from transport vehicles.
- Carrying and moving materials between storage and work areas using hand tools or basic equipment.
- Assisting with breakdowns and installations, ensuring minimal downtime in operations.
- Performing general housekeeping duties to maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Acting as an observer when instructed, for example during fire watch checks or pipeline inspections.
