The Auditor General South Africa (AGSA) is offering its prestigious bursary programme for the 2026 academic year. This opportunity is designed to support talented South African youth in achieving their dreams while contributing to the country’s financial accountability and governance.

What Does the Bursary Cover?

Successful applicants will benefit from a comprehensive bursary package that eases the financial burden of full-time study. The bursary covers:

  • Tuition fees at a SAICA-accredited university
  • University accommodation and meals
  • Prescribed textbooks

In return, bursary recipients are required to serve articles or enter into a training contract with AGSA after completing their studies, as stipulated in the bursary contract. This ensures a smooth transition from academic studies into professional practice.

Who Can Apply?

The bursary is exclusively available to students pursuing Chartered Accountancy studies. Eligible degree streams include:

  • BCom Accounting (CA stream)
  • Bachelor of Accounting (CA stream)
  • BCompt

Only South African citizens may apply, and candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English, strong communication skills, and leadership potential. Applicants should also display drive, determination, and a commitment to succeed.

Requirements by Study Level:

Matric learners applying for 1st year studies

  • Matric exemption with university entrance
  • Minimum 60% in English and Mathematics (no Maths Literacy)
  • Submit: Copy of ID, Grade 11 results, Grade 12 mid-year results, and university acceptance letter

1st year students applying for 2nd year

  • Over 60% in Financial Accounting
  • Must be pursuing a Chartered Accountancy programme
  • Matric English and Maths results above 60%
  • Submit: Copy of ID, Matric results, and academic record

2nd year students applying for 3rd year

  • Over 60% in Financial Accounting and Management Accounting
  • Must be on the CA stream
  • Submit: Copy of ID and full academic record

Final year students applying for postgraduate (CTA)

  • At least 55% in all core modules
  • Acceptance into the CTA programme
  • Submit: Copy of ID, full academic record, and CTA acceptance letter

 

 

Important Notes Before Applying

  • Applicants must register a profile on the AGSA portal before applying.
  • All documents must be uploaded in PDF format, not exceeding 2MB.
  • If incorrect documents are uploaded, the system will delete them, and you will need to re-upload.
  • If requested academics are not available, apply with the latest completed results.
