This exciting learnership will be hosted across Gauteng, Pretoria, Limpopo, Northwest, Mpumalanga, and Free State, giving learners the chance to develop their skills within one of South Africa’s leading pathology laboratories.
About the Programme
The aim of this 24-month structured learnership is to equip learners with broad knowledge, skills, and values required to perform professional phlebotomy techniques. Learners will benefit from both theoretical training and practical workplace exposure, ensuring they are fully prepared to serve patients with care and professionalism.
Upon completion of the programme and the successful writing of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) board examination, learners will be eligible to register as qualified Phlebotomy Technicians. This certification opens the door to employment in medical pathology laboratories and blood donation organisations across South Africa.
Minimum Entry Requirements
To be considered for this learnership, candidates must meet the following academic criteria:
- Matric / National Senior Certificate (NSC)
- English (HL or FAL): Level 4 (50–59%)
- Life Sciences: Level 4 (50–59%)
- Mathematics: Level 3 (40–49%) OR Mathematical Literacy: Level 4 (50–59%)
Key Responsibilities and Duties
During the learnership, learners will actively participate in the following:
- Attending formal lectures, practical training sessions, and completing assignments.
- Preparing for and writing the HPCSA board examination.
- Collecting venous and capillary blood as well as non-blood specimens from patients and donors.
- Implementing sound housekeeping procedures and adhering to safety and legal protocols.
- Providing excellent patient care and representing Lancet Laboratories with professionalism.
Note: Learners are responsible for their own accommodation, food, and transport. A standard work week will consist of 42.5 hours.
