The Joe Gqabi District Municipality is opening doors for unemployed graduates to gain valuable workplace experience through its Internship Programme. This initiative is designed to equip young professionals with practical skills, enhance employability, and build a strong foundation for future careers in the public sector.
The municipality, located in the Eastern Cape, plays a vital role in service delivery across its local municipalities. By participating in the Internship Programme, successful candidates will not only sharpen their expertise but also contribute meaningfully to community development.
Internship Opportunities
The 2025 Internship Programme covers critical functional areas within the municipality. Graduates can apply to the following divisions:
- Communications – Assist with media relations, public information campaigns, community outreach, and internal communications. Interns will learn how to effectively engage with stakeholders while strengthening the municipality’s image.
- Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) – Support workplace compliance, risk assessments, and the development of safety protocols. Interns will gain practical knowledge of OHS legislation while promoting safe working environments.
- Project Management Unit (PMU) – Work alongside engineers and project officers to track infrastructure projects, compile progress reports, and ensure that developments are completed within scope, budget, and timelines.
- Water Services Technician – Assist with monitoring water supply systems, conducting maintenance, and supporting technical staff in ensuring communities have access to safe and sustainable water services.
STIPEND: All inclusive of R5 300-00 per month
REQUIREMENTS
Applicants must be:
- South African Citizen
- Residence within Joe Gqabi District Municipal Area( thorough verification will be done)
- Unemployed youth graduates between the ages 18 and 35 years with a (3) year degree or National Diploma (360 credits) in any field specified below.
