Gauteng DSACR Bursary Programme for 2026

 

 

The Gauteng Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation (DSACR) has officially opened applications for its 2026 bursary programme. This initiative is aimed at empowering young residents of Gauteng by offering financial support to pursue undergraduate studies in key fields that play a crucial role in knowledge preservation and information accessibility.

Fields of Study Covered

Bursaries will only be awarded to students pursuing undergraduate degrees in the following areas:

  • Archive and Records Management (Bachelor’s degree)
  • Library and Information Science (Bachelor’s degree)

These fields are essential to the preservation of history, culture, and knowledge systems, ensuring that the province and the country at large safeguard its heritage and make information accessible for generations to come.

What the Bursary Covers

The bursary programme will provide funding for:

  • Tuition fees
  • Registration fees

Applicants must note that the bursary does not cover the following expenses:

  • Books
  • Transport
  • Accommodation

This makes it crucial for prospective students to plan ahead and budget for the excluded costs.

 

 

Who Can Apply?

To be considered, applicants must meet the following minimum entry criteria:

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must be under the age of 35.
  • Must be residing and studying in Gauteng Province.
  • Must be studying or intending to study towards an undergraduate qualification in one of the specified fields.
  • Must be registered or provisionally accepted at a recognised and accredited public tertiary institution in South Africa (private institutions are not funded).
  • Must not be permanently employed.

Failure to meet these requirements will result in disqualification.

Required Supporting Documents

Applicants must submit certified copies of the following documents with their application form (compulsory):

  • South African ID or passport.
  • Completed academic qualifications.
  • Proof of registration or provisional acceptance on institutional letterhead.
  • Recent full academic transcripts/results (if already studying).
  • Study-related quotes (where applicable).
  • Curriculum Vitae (CV).
  • Proof of residence.
  • Motivational letter explaining:
    • Why you deserve the bursary.
    • Your career plans after graduation.
    • How you will contribute to Gauteng society.

Applications missing any of these documents will not be considered.
