This programme is tailored to equip young graduates with hands-on experience, industry insights, and the administrative skills essential for excelling in both the public and private sectors.

WHAT IS THE UKZN ADMINISTRATION INTERNSHIP PROGRAMME?

The University of KwaZulu-Natal, one of South Africa’s most reputable higher education institutions, developed this internship programme to bridge the gap between academic learning and workplace readiness. The initiative is part of UKZN’s commitment to youth development, graduate employability, and transformation through practical training.

The Administration Internship Programme is structured for 24 months, depending on the department and funding source. Interns are placed in various university administrative units, including Human Resources, Finance, Supply Chain Management, Registrar’s Office, Academic Services, and Student Affairs. This diversity allows interns to gain exposure to multiple facets of university administration.

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

This programme is ideal for:

  • Recent graduates with a Diploma or Degree in Administration, Public Management, Office Management, Business Management, or related fields.
  • Unemployed youth seeking their first formal work experience.
  • Individuals committed to learning, ethical work practice, and professional growth.

 

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Qualification: Degree in Public Administration or related field (NQF Level 7)
  • Status: Unemployed graduate
  • Age: 18 – 35 years
  • Availability: Must be available for the full 24-month duration.
  • Additional: No prior full-time work experience related to the field of study

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Package including Word, Excel, Email)
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willingness to work as part of a team
  • Willingness to learn and take initiative

Preference is often given to UKZN alumni and previously disadvantaged individuals, in alignment with the university’s employment equity policies.
