WHAT IS THE UGO FELLOWSHIP PROGRAMME?
The UGO Fellowship is an annual youth-focused leadership development programme that selects emerging African environmental leaders to undergo intensive training, mentorship, and practical experience in climate action, sustainability, and policy advocacy.
Established with the vision to green Africa by empowering its future leaders, the UGO Fellowship equips fellows with the tools, networks, and mindset needed to lead transformational environmental projects in their local communities and beyond.
WHO SHOULD APPLY FOR THE 2025 COHORT?
- Must be South African, Botswana, Kenya or Sierra Leone citizens between 18-32 years
- A minimum of 65% average from your latest results
- Enrolled for 2025 academic year in courses related to Sustainability/Green Economy
- Willingness to travel locally and globally
- Candidates should have no criminal record
- Candidates must come from a previously disadvantaged family (supported by Affidavit)
Applicants should demonstrate:
- A passion for environmental sustainability
- A track record of community involvement or leadership
- A clear vision for solving ecological or climate-related issues
- Willingness to commit to the 12-month hybrid (virtual + in-person) programme
Students, recent graduates, early-career professionals, and social entrepreneurs are all encouraged to apply. Diversity and inclusion are at the heart of UGO’s mission, and the selection process emphasizes regional and gender representation.
BENEFITS OF THE FELLOWSHIP:
Fellows selected for the UGO 2025 cohort will receive:

- Latest Academic transcript
- Affidavit for previously disadvantaged
- 3 Endorsement letters for references from 3 reputable people
