This is more than a skills training opportunity—it’s a gateway into the dynamic and growing world of food science.

What is the Learnership About?

The Southern Oil NQF 3 Food Laboratory Analysis Learnership is a structured training programme that combines theoretical education with practical workplace experience. Designed specifically for individuals passionate about food safety, quality assurance, and scientific testing, this programme prepares learners for a career in laboratory environments across the food production industry.

Participants are trained to understand and carry out essential laboratory practices such as:

  • Conducting sample preparations
  • Performing microbiological and chemical tests
  • Applying standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ensuring compliance with safety and hygiene standards

This programme falls under the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 3, making it an ideal starting point for individuals with a matric certificate, especially those who excel in science-related subjects.

 

 

Who Should Apply?

Southern Oil encourages unemployed South African youth who meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Successful completion of Grade 12 (Matric) or an NQF Level 4 equivalent qualification
  • Currently unemployed and not enrolled in any other learnership
  • Willing to commit to the full duration of the programme
  • Preference will be given to candidates residing in or near the Swellendam area.

Applicants must be South African citizens between the ages of 18 and 35 and residing in the Western Cape, preferably near Moorreesburg, where Southern Oil’s primary processing plant and laboratories are located.

What You’ll Gain:

Selected candidates will benefit from:

  • A 12-month fully funded learnership contract
  • Practical work experience in a leading food processing laboratory
  • Monthly stipend to support basic living costs
  • A nationally recognized NQF Level 3 qualification in Food Laboratory Analysis upon completion
