About the Programme

The Statutory Control Internship Programme is designed to expose interns to SANRAL’s regulatory, legal, and compliance environment. Interns will gain firsthand experience in monitoring and implementing statutory requirements related to environmental approvals, land acquisition, servitudes, and road reserve control.

This internship equips participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to ensure that all SANRAL projects comply with legislation, municipal by-laws, and relevant statutory approvals. It is a critical learning path for graduates aspiring to build careers in infrastructure law, town planning, compliance management, and environmental governance.

Positions: Statutory Control Internship X3

SANRAL has made several internship placements available ensuring that aspiring professionals from diverse backgrounds can access these opportunities:

  • SANRAL Western Cape: 1 Havenga Street, Oakdale, Bellville X3

STIPEND: R8,000.00

 

 

Internship Objective

The purpose of this graduate opportunity is to provide exposure to the statutory control department that fulfils the control function on the national road network within the Western and Northern Cape Provinces. The intern will be introduced to the business processes; the underlying legal provisions; and the relevant factors that are considered in the processing of applications as received from the public. Experience will be gained by observing and interacting with the relevant personnel in the processing of these applications.

Minimum Requirements

  • A National Diploma in Civil Engineering / Land Survey / Town and Regional Planning, Paralegal qualification.
  • No work experience required.

Key Responsibilities:

Under the supervision of the Statutory Control Officer the intern will assist the office to process and consider statutory control applications in terms of the provisions of the South African National Roads SOC Limited and National Roads Acts, Act 7 of 1998; These include inter alias;

  • Assist with the processing of wayleave applications for services in the national road reserve whether crossing or in parallel to the national roads-S48 of the Act;
  • Assist with the processing of land subdivision applications – S49 of the Act;
  • Assist with applications for outdoor advertising along national roads and the removal of illegal advertisements – S50
  • Assist with the applications and approvals for tourists related information road signs;
  • Assist with the reporting of claims in cases where damage to national roads occurred.
  • Engage with project managers/route managers to obtain input (to the extent required) in order to process applications as noted above;
  • Assist to provide feedback to queries received from the project managers/ route managers regarding the regulatory rules as it pertains to the national road legislation

Placements will be in accordance with SANRAL’ s internship policy. Therefore proximity of applicants to the relevant SANRAL Offices will be taken into consideration.
