Why It Matters
KwaZulu‑Natal faces chronic staffing shortages in public healthcare—outdated data from 2015 showed public-sector nurse vacancy rates as high as 46% nationally, and nearly 50% in some provinces . Filling these roles is critical to reducing patient-to-nurse ratios, improving care access in rural areas, and enhancing patient outcomes in underresourced communities.
