How to Create a myNSFAS Account for 2026 Applications

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has officially opened its 2026 funding applications. All applications must be completed online through the official NSFAS website.

To get started, you need to create a myNSFAS account — your personal profile that allows you to apply for funding, track your application status, and manage your details.

About NSFAS

The National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) supports deserving South African students from poor and working-class families to pursue higher education at public universities and TVET colleges.

NSFAS funding typically covers:

  • Tuition and registration fees
  • Accommodation or transport
  • Learning materials and books
  • Meal allowances

This initiative ensures that no capable student is left behind because of financial hardship.

Before You Begin

Before creating your myNSFAS profile, make sure you meet the following basic requirements:

  • You are connected to the internet
  • You have an active cellphone number or email address
  • You have a valid South African ID number

Steps to Create a myNSFAS Account

Follow these step-by-step instructions carefully to register your account:

  1. Visit the official NSFAS website: nsfas.org.za
  2. Click on the ‘myNSFAS Account’ tab at the top-right corner of the homepage.
  3. Select ‘Create Profile’.
  4. Use your ID number as your username and create a secure password.
  5. Provide your email address and cellphone number.
  6. Click on the option that allows NSFAS to verify your details.
  7. Finally, click ‘Register’ to complete your profile setup.

Verification Process

After registration:

  • An OTP (One-Time Pin) will be sent to both the email and cellphone number you entered.
  • Enter the OTP and click ‘Submit’.
  • You will then receive another SMS and email confirming that your myNSFAS account has been successfully created.

Tip: Keep your login details safe — you’ll need them throughout the funding process.

Important Reminder

Creating a myNSFAS account does not automatically mean you have applied for funding.
Once your account is created, you must log in again and complete the online NSFAS funding application before the closing date.
