Eskom Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme for 2025 – 2026

Eskom Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme for 2025

South Africa’s fight against youth unemployment gets a powerful boost as Eskom launches its Youth Employment Service (YES) (Generation) Programme at Duvha Power Station, Mpumalanga. This innovative initiative is designed to open doors for 30 unemployed young South Africans, giving them access to work experience, skills development, and a path toward sustainable careers in the energy sector.

What is the Eskom YES (Generation) Programme?

The Youth Employment Service (YES) is a national programme championed by the government and supported by the private sector to address the youth unemployment crisis. Eskom, as a key player in South Africa’s energy industry, is one of the leading state-owned enterprises actively participating in this transformative programme.

Through the YES (Generation) initiative at Duvha Power Station, 30 young individuals will be employed on a 12-month fixed-term contract, gaining meaningful exposure and experience in one of the country’s critical energy-producing plants.

Why Duvha Power Station?

Located in Mpumalanga, Duvha Power Station is one of Eskom’s strategic coal-fired plants, playing a vital role in ensuring energy stability in South Africa. By situating the YES programme here, Eskom not only strengthens the local economy but also creates future-ready youth by immersing them in real industrial environments.

Participants in this programme will be engaged in activities related to:

  • Power generation operations
  • Engineering support services
  • Health, safety, and environmental monitoring
  • Administrative and technical assistance

This hands-on exposure will not only improve the employability of participants but also help them align with scarce and critical skills needed in South Africa’s energy and engineering sectors.

The programme is open to unemployed South African youth aged between 18 and 34 who meet the following minimum criteria:

  • Must have Grade 12 (Matric)

  • Must reside near or within Mpumalanga (preferably near Duvha Power Station)
  • Must be passionate about building a career in the energy sector

Benefits of Participating:

While this programme does not guarantee permanent employment at Eskom, it offers several life-changing benefits:

  • Monthly stipend for the duration of the programme
  • Practical work experience in a high-demand sector
  • Skills development and workplace readiness training
  • A stepping stone into formal employment or further learning
