Programme Overview
The ERWAT In-Service Training Programme is tailored for students pursuing a National Diploma in Biotechnology or Microbiology. This structured experiential learning opportunity allows participants to fulfil their diploma requirements while contributing meaningfully to ERWAT’s scientific operations.
Participants are assigned to ERWAT’s laboratories and wastewater treatment plants, where they are exposed to real-world microbiological and biotechnological techniques. These include:
- Sample collection and preparation
- Microbiological testing and analysis
- Water quality monitoring
- Laboratory data documentation
- Compliance with environmental and safety regulations
Under the guidance of skilled laboratory professionals and scientists, trainees gain critical insights into the daily responsibilities of professionals in the water management and public health sectors.
WHO CAN APPLY?
Eligible applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Be currently completing or have completed theoretical studies in Biotechnology or Microbiology
- Have Grade 12 (Matric)
- Require in-service training as part of a National Diploma programme (typically from a TVET or University of Technology)
- Be South African citizens, preferably residing in Gauteng
- Demonstrate a passion for laboratory work, environmental sustainability, and public health
