The AgriSeta Learning Programmes and Projects Internship Programme offers an exciting entry point into South Africa’s growing agricultural sector. What is the AgriSeta Internship Programme?

The Agricultural Sector Education and Training Authority (AgriSeta) Internship Programme falls under the SETA’s broader Learning Programmes and Projects division. It is aimed at equipping unemployed graduates with practical work experience in agriculture-related fields. Interns are placed with host employers in both public and private agricultural enterprises for a fixed period, usually 12 months.

This programme supports the objectives of the National Skills Development Strategy (NSDS) by facilitating the development of a skilled and capable agricultural workforce. Interns benefit from structured workplace learning, mentorship, and the opportunity to build professional networks.

 

 

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the AgriSeta Internship Programme, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Be a South African citizen aged between 18 and 35 years.
  • Have Grade 12
  • N6 Certificate in Management Assistance/ Public Management or equivalent
  • No work experience in Learning Programmes and Projects required
  • Be currently unemployed and not enrolled in any other learnership or internship programme.
  • Be willing to commit to a 24-month internship contract.

What to Expect

Interns gain hands-on experience in areas such as farm management, agro-processing, food safety compliance, sustainable production practices, research and development, and policy implementation. In addition, participants receive a monthly stipend to cover transport and basic living expenses, making the programme accessible even to those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Many host employers include government departments (such as DAFF), research institutions, commercial farms, and agri-processing companies. Through mentorship and guided exposure, interns leave the programme job-ready and confident.
