The Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) has opened applications for its 2026 Bursary Programme, specifically designed to support first-year dietetic students who require financial assistance. If you are passionate about nutrition, community wellness, and building a career in dietetics, this bursary could significantly lighten your financial burden.

Since its launch in 2013, the programme has helped aspiring dietitians progress in their academic journey by providing financial relief and recognising students who show leadership potential and genuine financial need. Successful applicants will receive R36 000 per year, paid directly into their university account for the second, third, and fourth years of study.

About the Organisation – ADSA

The Association for Dietetics in South Africa (ADSA) is a professional body representing registered dietitians nationwide. ADSA promotes evidence-based nutrition, ethical practice, and high academic standards within the dietetics profession. Through bursary support, ADSA aims to uplift future dietitians and ensure that financial constraints do not prevent talented learners from entering the profession.

Who Can Apply?

To qualify for the ADSA Bursary Programme 2026, applicants must meet all of the following:

  • Be a first-year dietetic student

You must currently be in your first year OR have just completed your first year.
Second-year students are not eligible.

  • No postgraduate students

Only undergraduate learners studying dietetics may apply.

  • Demonstrate financial need

You must provide proof showing you genuinely require financial support.

  • Show leadership qualities

Applicants must demonstrate involvement, commitment, or leadership potential.

  • Be a South African citizen

Valid South African ID required.

What the Bursary Covers

  • Annual funding of R36 000 paid directly into your university account
  • Funding continues for your 2nd, 3rd, and 4th year (subject to meeting conditions)
