The Institute for Landscape Architecture in South Africa (ILASA) is the professional body representing landscape architects across the country. ILASA promotes excellence, ethical practice, environmental sustainability and professional growth within the field.
The organisation works closely with the South African Council for the Landscape Architectural Profession (SACLAP) to ensure that education and professional standards remain globally competitive.

Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the ILASA Bursary Programme 2026, applicants must meet ALL the following minimum requirements:
Basic Eligibility
- Must be a South African citizen
- Must submit a complete application form
- Must provide proof of financial need (parents’ payslips, income proof, grant documents)
Academic Requirements
- Matric/Grade 12 learners:
- Minimum 60% aggregate in English, Mathematics and Physical Sciences
- Current university students:
- Minimum 60% average in the previous academic year
- Must provide a full academic transcript
Programme Requirements
- Must be accepted or registered for a Landscape Architecture programme accredited by SACLAP
- Must meet the entrance requirements of the chosen university
- Programme must be recognized by ILASA
Selection Criteria
Once eligibility is confirmed, ILASA makes final selections based on:
- Financial need
- Academic performance
- Historical disadvantage (redress and transformation focus)
- Commitment to Landscape Architecture
- Availability of ILASA funding

ILASA may follow one or both methods:
- Open Call for Applications
ILASA publishes an advert on its website calling for bursary applications for the next academic year.

ILASA may directly invite nominated, eligible students to apply.
Important Notes

- Students applying for non-SACLAP accredited programmes will NOT be considered.
Duration of Funding
- Funding is year-to-year, depending on ILASA’s budget
- Students continuing with the same qualification do not need to reapply, but must:

- ILASA may review progress and decide whether to continue supporting a student who exceeds normal study duration

The bursary value is determined annually and may cover the following direct payments:

Funding is paid directly to the institution or supplier.
