What to Expect After Submitting Your BEEI Phase V Application

What to Expect After Submitting Your BEEI Phase V Application

The Basic Education Employment Initiative (BEEI) Phase V continues to offer a crucial opportunity for South African youth to gain valuable work experience in the education sector. Once you’ve submitted your application, it’s natural to feel a mix of excitement and anxiety. Understanding what happens next can help you stay prepared and informed. This article breaks down each stage of the post-application process, from confirmation to final placement.

  1. Application Confirmation

After successfully submitting your application, you should receive confirmation. If you applied online, a confirmation message will appear on your profile, and you may receive a confirmation SMS. Keep a screenshot or note of this for your records.

Tips:

  • If you didn’t get a confirmation, double-check that your profile is complete on SAYouth.mobi.
  • Make sure your contact details (phone number and email) are up to date, as this is how recruiters will reach you.
  1. Preliminary Screening

Once applications close, the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and its partners begin the screening process. This step involves checking whether you meet the basic eligibility criteria:

Basic Requirements Include:

  • Age between 18 and 34 years
  • Currently unemployed and not in education or training
  • Not currently receiving any government grants (except child support)
  • Residing within 5km of the school you applied to

If you don’t meet these conditions, your application will unfortunately be disqualified at this stage.

Note: Even if you meet all the criteria, there are limited positions. The screening process does not guarantee selection.

  1. Shortlisting and Interviews

Applicants who pass the preliminary screening are shortlisted. Schools will then review shortlisted candidates and may call applicants for interviews or assessments. This process can take a few weeks, depending on the school and district.

What You Might Need to Prepare:

  • Updated CV
  • Certified copies of your ID and qualifications (if required)
  • Reference letters (if available)
  • Any other documents requested by the school

Interview Tips:

  • Dress neatly and arrive on time
  • Be ready to explain why you want to be part of the BEEI program
  • Show a willingness to work with children, educators, and in teams

Some schools may not conduct formal interviews and may rely on document verification and a brief informal chat.

  1. Vetting and Verification

If you’re successful after shortlisting, your information will be sent for verification. This step ensures that:

  • Your ID is valid and matches your records
  • You’re not employed elsewhere
  • You’re not receiving other government funding that disqualifies you

In some cases, background checks may be done, especially if the position involves working closely with children.

Be Patient: This phase can take time, as many applications need to be processed. Avoid changing your contact number or moving without notifying the school or updating your profile.

  1. Final Selection and Notification

Once all checks are completed, schools finalize the list of successful candidates. If selected, you will receive an official offer or placement notice via:

  • SMS
  • Phone call
  • SAYouth.mobi profile update

The communication will usually contain:

  • Your reporting date
  • School name and location
  • Position type (e.g., Education Assistant, General School Assistant)

If you are not selected, you may not receive an individual rejection message — but your SAYouth profile may show your application status as “not shortlisted” or “unsuccessful.”

  1. Contract Signing and Orientation

Before starting your duties, you’ll be required to sign a contract outlining your responsibilities, working hours, stipend, and duration of employment.

Orientation may include:

  • Code of conduct and policies
  • Child safeguarding and safety training
  • Understanding your role in supporting teachers and learners

The stipend is usually around R4,081 per month (subject to change) and is paid monthly through a bank account. Make sure your banking details are accurate and submitted promptly.

  1. What If You’re Not Selected?

Due to the high volume of applications and limited placements, not all applicants will be chosen. If you are not selected:

  • Keep your SAYouth.mobi profile active — other opportunities may be posted
  • Watch for future phases of the BEEI or other government programs
  • Continue applying to schools and community opportunities in your area

Rejection from one phase doesn’t disqualify you from applying again in the future.

Conclusion

Submitting your BEEI Phase V application is just the first step. The journey includes screening, interviews, verification, and hopefully — placement. Stay patient, keep your contact details updated, and continue to check your SAYouth profile and SMS messages. Whether you are selected or not, know that the experience of applying puts you one step closer to future employment. Good luck!
