In a bold step to empower the youth of Johannesburg, the Skills Development Corporation (SDC) has rolled out a transformative Learnership Programme specifically designed for unemployed youth. This initiative offers more than just training — it is a gateway to employment, skills acquisition, and long-term career growth for young South Africans who are ready to embrace change.
A Gateway to Employment for Joburg’s Youth
Unemployment among young people remains one of South Africa’s most pressing issues, particularly in urban hubs like Johannesburg. Recognising this, SDC has committed to bridging the gap between potential and opportunity through its Youth Learnership Programme. Targeted at Joburg-based individuals aged 18–28, this programme gives preference to those who are currently unemployed and not enrolled in education or training.
By aligning its curriculum with the needs of the labour market and national skills priorities, SDC ensures that participants are not just trained — they are prepared to thrive in the modern workforce.
What the Programme Offers:
This accredited learnership combines theoretical classroom learning with practical workplace experience, giving learners a competitive edge. Participants can expect to benefit from:
- Fully funded training (participants do not pay any fees)
- Monthly stipends, to assist with transport and basic needs
- Accredited qualifications in fields such as Business Administration, Contact Centre Operations, IT, and more
- Workplace exposure at host companies, often leading to permanent employment
- Career development and mentorship from SDC’s experienced facilitators
SDC partners with a wide network of employers across Johannesburg, giving learners real-world exposure and a chance to build meaningful connections in their industry of choice.
