WHO IS SABN?

The South African Bank Note Company, a subsidiary of the South African Reserve Bank, is entrusted with the crucial responsibility of printing the country’s banknotes. ABOUT THE SABN ENGINEERING APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME

The SABN Engineering Apprenticeship Programme is a multi-year, SETA-accredited training opportunity focused on producing qualified artisans in disciplines such as:

  • Millwright
  • Fitters and Turners
  • Electricians
  • Instrumentation Mechanics

Participants undergo rigorous theoretical and practical training, often in partnership with reputable training providers and TVET colleges. The aim is to prepare apprentices for the National Trade Test, which certifies them as competent artisans under the guidance of the Department of Employment and Labour.

KEY FEATURES OF THE PROGRAMME:

  • Duration: 36 Months depending on the trade.
  • Accreditation: Recognized by the Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services SETA (merSETA).
  • Structured Training: Combines classroom instruction with practical on-site experience at SABN’s high-tech facility.
  • Mentorship: Apprentices receive mentorship from experienced engineers and artisans throughout their learning journey.
  • Monthly Stipend: Successful applicants receive a competitive monthly allowance to support them during the programme.

 

 

WHO CAN APPLY?

This programme is aimed at young South African citizens who meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Matric with 50% pass for Mathematics and Physical Science
  • N2 to N6 certificate in Electrical or Mechanical (Fitter, HVAC and Millwright) Engineering (indicating the relevant trade theory)
  • Preference will be given to applicants considered as South African Youth (under the age of 35)
