NSTC & CETA Short Skills Training Programme for 2025

NSTC & CETA Short Skills Training Programme for 2025

In a bold move to tackle youth unemployment and bridge the technical skills gap in South Africa’s construction sector, the National Skills & Technical College (NSTC) has partnered with the Construction Education and Training Authority (CETA) to launch a Short Skills Programme aimed at empowering 50 learners with accredited, practical training. This initiative represents a significant step forward in skills development and economic participation, particularly for disadvantaged communities.

Empowering Youth Through Construction Skills

The NSTC–CETA Short Skills Programme is designed to provide hands-on, industry-relevant training that prepares learners for immediate employment or further learning within the construction and built environment sector. The programme includes both theoretical instruction and practical exposure, delivered over a condensed period by experienced facilitators at NSTC’s accredited training facilities.

The training will focus on priority construction-related trades and skills such as:

  • Basic bricklaying and plastering
  • Carpentry and roofing
  • Plumbing and drainage
  • Health and safety in construction

These skills are highly in demand in South Africa’s infrastructure development and housing projects, making graduates of this programme more employable in both the formal and informal sectors.

Who Qualifies?

The programme is open to unemployed youth, especially those who:

  • Have completed Grade 10 or higher
  • Demonstrate interest in construction trades
  • Certified ID copy (within 3 months)
  • First-time participant in the Construction CETA program
  • Must reside in Middelburg
  • Willingness to be deployed anywhere in the district
  • Youth, women & people with disabilities encouraged to apply

Priority will be given to women, persons with disabilities, and individuals from previously disadvantaged backgrounds, in line with CETA’s transformation objectives.

Benefits of the Programme

The NSTC–CETA Short Skills Programme offers learners:

  • A nationally recognized certificate of competence
  • A monthly stipend during the training period
  • Exposure to real-world construction projects
  • The potential to access further learnerships or employment

By the end of the programme, learners will not only be equipped with practical skills but also gain the confidence to pursue sustainable livelihoods—whether through employment, entrepreneurship, or further training within the SETA landscape.

A Strategic Partnership for Change

This initiative is part of NSTC’s mission to deliver responsive, industry-aligned training programmes that contribute to South Africa’s national development goals. CETA, as the funding partner, continues to champion skills development initiatives that align with the National Skills Development Plan (NSDP) and promote inclusive economic growth.
