The bursary will support students pursuing full-time studies in:

  • Electrical Engineering / Mechanical Engineering (1 bursary)
  • Finance (1 bursary)
  • Geology (1 bursary)
  • Mining Engineering (2 bursaries)
  • Metallurgical Engineering / Analytical Chemistry (1 bursary)

High-demand technical fields receive priority due to the mine’s operational needs.

Selection Process

  • Matric learners will be selected based on final Matric exam results.
  • Northam Booysendal follows an Employment Equity Policy, meaning local applicants and previously disadvantaged groups may receive preference.
  • Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted. If you receive no feedback within 3 weeks after the closing date, consider your application unsuccessful.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants must meet all the following criteria:

General Requirements

  • Must be South African citizens.
  • Must be currently in Matric OR have completed Matric.
  • Must intend to study or already be studying at a recognised South African tertiary institution.
  • Must be hard-working, self-motivated and committed to academic excellence.
  • Local community residents (Mashishing, Roossenekal and Steelpoort) will receive preference.

Academic Requirements

For Current Matric Students

  • Minimum 60% for Mathematics
  • Minimum 60% for Physical Science
  • Minimum 50% for Language
    (Grade 11 final or Matric mid-year results are accepted.)

For Current Tertiary Students

  • Minimum 60% overall average for major subjects

Technical Fields

(Electrical/Mechanical/Mining/Metallurgical Engineering, Chemistry, Geology)

  • Minimum:
    • 60% Mathematics
    • 60% Physical Science
    • 50% Language

Non-Technical Fields

(Finance, Accounting)

  • Minimum:
    • 60% Accounting
    • 50% Language
